Croatian Zagorje is a cultural-historical Croatian region and a separate natural-geographical entity in the northwestern part of Croatia. It is separated from Zagreb by the Medvednica river, hence its name – “behind the mountain”. It is a predominantly hilly region between Medvednica, Kalnik, the Drava, Sutla and Sava rivers, the central part of which, in the west-east direction, stretches the mountain range Maceljska gora – Strahinjščica – Ivanščica – Varaždinsko toplicko gorje, which divides Zagorje into two parts – north and south .
