At the beginning of 2023. marks the 450th anniversary of the famous Peasants’ Revolt of Matija Gubac. Throughout history, a lot has been written and researched about this event in order to discover the circumstances in which it took place.
The peasant revolt occurred after the peasants decided to stop paying taxes to their rulers. Gubac was one of the leaders of the rebels and was very popular among his comrades, so they called him their king. His title of Peasant King quickly came to his head. The execution of Gubcem’s sentence was carried out immediately after the suppression of the uprising, in Zagreb, on the 15th. 1573. years.
