Lakes and backwaters

Bedekovčan lakes

One of the greatest beauties of the Zagorje region is the Bedekovčan Lake, rich in various types of fish. The lakes were created in the period from 1937. until 1950 by mining clay for the needs of the brick industry.

The lakes are up to 5 meters deep, and in order they are: First Lake, Second Lake, Granje Lake, Lake near the Fisherman’s House and Blue Lake, and they are managed by a sports fishing association. Promenades around the lake, beautiful nature and greenery, the singing of various birds, fishing, a fisherman’s house that offers refreshments, are only part of what makes visitors return to Bedekovčina. The popular Bajeri is a favorite bathing spot and promenade, but also the venue for numerous events such as the Fair and exhibition of Zagorje wines, the music festival Igrajte nam, mužikaši and the drama festival Summer in the Bajeri.

Lake Trakošća

Lake Trakošća is an artificial lake located in the northwestern part of Hrvatski Zagorje, at the junction of Maclje, Ravna Gora and Strahinjčica.

It is located next to the eponymous castle of the Drašković family. Next to the lake is a meticulously designed landscape park, which forms a harmonious horticultural whole with landscaped meadows, various flowers and shrubs. In winter, the lake freezes, and the trees get a fragile snow cover. But the lake does not only have an aesthetic role, it used to be a pond, then a mill and a sawmill.

Špiljak’s lakes

The lakes in this beautiful natural corner are privately owned by Mr. Mija Špiljak. This aquatic oasis abounds in a variety of fish species, including carp, grass carp, pike, perch and catfish. In the past, tenchs could also be found here, but unfortunately, in recent years, they seem to have become rare guests. However, there was room for bream and large specimens of fathead minnows.

This is a truly wonderful place with three fishing lakes and one hatchery, which guarantees an outstanding catch. Mr. Špiljak regularly enriches the ponds with new specimens of fish every year in order to preserve the richness of the fish world. Also, at the end of each season, it organizes exciting float fishing competitions, which further enriches the fishing experience in this area.

Once you visit this magical place, believe me, it will be hard to leave and you will almost certainly come back again. The photos you can see show the beautiful surroundings surrounding the lakes, along with some impressive specimens of fish to catch. I have personally witnessed the catch of larger carp, catfish, pike and walleye in this place.

Ultimately, this is the perfect place to spend a relaxed fishing weekend, enjoying the natural beauty and fishing challenges it offers.

Graba – a branch of the Krapina River

Rukavac “Graba” is located in Hrvatsko Zagorje, not far from the town of Krapina.

The lakes are the richest in edible carp and grass carp. The largest grass carp caught on the lake is larger than about 15 kg, and carp about 20 kg (scaly). There are also predators, the most common of which are catfish, perch and pike.

Larger fish are successfully caught by waiting on the bottom, and they can surprise you when fishing with a float. Predators are mostly caught on live bait by waiting. Of the baits, sweet corn, regular corn (unflavored), and boilies performed best.
What should be noted is that there are no cvergl in the backwater.

You have the greatest chance of catching a bite by hunting right next to the breaks or bushes (of which there are really a lot on the lake). Of course, such an approach requires you to be close to the sticks and always ready.

Sports and recreation lake Jarki

The sports and recreation lake Jarki is an interesting ecological locality that can be reached by a pleasant walk over the historical hill of Kapelščak, then by a wooded road to the gentle village of Jarki, where the lake, 271 meters long and 54 meters wide, is surrounded by the forests of the Medvednica Nature Park. The lake serves for a recreational and pleasant stay in nature, the development of fishing tourism, and for the needs of a school in nature.

The holder of the lake construction project was the Municipality of Stubičke Toplice, which gave the same to the Sports Fishing Society “Stubaki” with the intention of developing sport fishing with the aim that sports fishermen take care of the protection of waters and fish stocks, fish farming, stocking, education of young people about managing fishing waters , the development of sports and sports ethics, sports-fishing competitions, recreation and environmental protection.

In the surroundings of the lake, for the needs of various activities, there is a wooden fisherman’s house.

Lake Gorica

In the fertile Kostel Valley, the historical Keglevic nobles owned estates and castles: Bežanec, Dubrava and Gorica, while above Pregrada was the old medieval Kostelgrad.

One of the special features of the park is a beautiful lake with an islet, known locally as the “Island of Love”. Entrance to the castle is possible only from the southern side of the park, along the shore of the lake. It is interesting that the entire park is separated from the castle itself, which makes this location unique and rare. Today, Lake Gorica is managed by the Gorica Sports Fishing Association.

This beautiful historical location offers much to explore and discover, and the Gorica castle with the “Island of Love” lake remains a significant cultural treasure of the Kostel Valley. Lake Zajerski

Rukavac “Graba” is located in Hrvatsko Zagorje, not far from the town of Krapina.

If you ever want to fish on water that is a pure carp destination with an exclusively sporting approach to fishing, and by that I mean exclusive fishing from the shore without any aids, then your first choice is the Zajarki-Zaprešić fishing net.

The hosts would still say come to Bager. A 50-year-old vessel that is regularly stocked mainly with carp. Size 40h with a small green island with its own special feature. The lake is rich in fish and is under strict supervision of all those who fish there. Namely, it is a water especially rich in carp.
